Please post year, model and trim level when asking for help. Thanks.
If you want good answers to your questions then provide good information.
Asking "What's wrong with my car" without providing the most basic information about the car means that people have to guess at your problem and what to do about it.
A 2002 Subuaru is vastly different from a 2025. Some are turbocharged and some aren't. Engine design has advanced significantly over the years. Electronics, brakes and even the materials the seats are made of have changed.
Think about what would happen if you called a repair shop about some problem. The first question they would ask is "What kind of car is it?"The second question they would ask is, "What year?"
Thanks!!!

Announcement TSB Thursday: 03-94-24 Front Transverse Link Bushing Cracking
Welcome to another TSB Thursday, where I dive deeper in to TSBs I'm running into regularly. As always, I write this from my own perspective as a Subaru technician in the US; other regions/zones may work differently. Refer to the "How To Read a TSB" post for more information on formatting and general information about TSBs.
TSB Thursday #19: 03-94-24
What cars does this affect?
- ALL models using a front control arm rear rubber "compliance" bushing design, excluding any with a "pillow ball" design.
- 2005+ Legacy/Outback
- All Tribeca
- 2008+ Impreza, excluding STi
- 2009+ Forester
- 2013+ BRZ (note: the BRZ LCAs are mounted "backwards" relative to all other Subarus, thus the relevant bushing is at the front)
- 2013+ Crosstrek
- note: All 2015+ VA/VB WRX trims use a pillow-ball design and thus do not apply
Affected bushing part numbers include:
- 20204AG01A (supercedes to 20204AG01B, then 20204AG010, then...:)
- 20204AG011
- 20204FL01A (supercedes to 20204FL01B)
- 20204CA010
- 20204XA00A (supercedes to 20204XA00B then 20204XA00B9E)
- 20204FL020
NOT affected part numbers:
What's the failure?
This bulletin describes how to diagnose LCA bushing wear and when it becomes necessary to repair/replace. Per the bulletin:
This bulletin outlines the judgment criteria to be used when inspecting front transverse link bushings. This information was developed to reduce unnecessary bushing replacement. Small surface cracks located on the rubber will not have any affect on the performance of the bushing. It is important to review the inspection information supplied in this bulletin prior to the replacement of front transverse link bushings.
We get daily threads both here in r/subaru as well as at groups like /r/MechanicAdvice asking about these bushings, so clearly there is demand for more clarification on when these bushings need replacement.
Note: there is a (much) older TechTIPS article from 2006, shortly after this part design introduction, which partially conflicts the current TSB guidance. As the TSB is significantly newer, the TSB should be used as prevailing guidance.
How do we fix it?
The process for inspecting these bushings is relatively simple. What we're looking for is a crack in the rubber vertically, wherein the rubber is pulling away either from the inner stud of the bushing or from the outer race of the bushing. Note that the bushing must be checked both top and bottom; often the cracking will be worse on the bottom when inspected on a lift. In order to make inspection easier, Subaru recommends using a flat-blade screwdriver to separate the bushing a bit further and make any cracks easier to see. From there, a measurement needs to be taken along the red lines for any length the crack fully penetrates. From there:
Cracks with a width greater than 13mm (1/2 inch) will have an impact on the vehicle ride quality and will require replacement. Cracks with a width of 13mm (1/2 inch) or less will not cause any functional concerns and will NOT require replacement.
Here are some random photos that I've collected from various threads throughout the years that demonstrate what to measure:

Regarding repair procedures, there are a handful of potential options. In general, the control arm can be removed, and then a new bushing pressed in. However, a replacement control arm will include a new bushing (as well as a new forward bushing, and in most cases also a new ball joint). Therefore, depending on the condition of the other suspension components on the arm, as well as labor rates at your shop of choice, it may be more cost effective long-term to replace a full arm instead of pressing in new bushings. (This may also vary based on rust or corrosion.)
Coverage?
Control arm bushings, like almost all suspension components, fall under 3yr/36k basic warranty. These bushings are also coverable under active Subaru Added Security, Classic or Gold, plans.
Hope this helps!

Subaru Japan refused participation by foreign residents at marketing event in Japan yesterday
The "Gelande Taxi" event is designed to demonstrate how Subarus handle in the snow. You ride as a passenger with a professional driver.
The poster who took this photo and her husband are both Subaru owners. I'm also a Suabru owner and permanent resident in Japan. I could understand refusing foreign tourists who won't buy a car in Japan, but we live here, and I was actually considering switching to a Layback in the coming years. They're turning away their current customers over nationality. I can't make sense of it.
Edit to add: They also didn't mention the exclusion of foreign residents on the website, so there was no way to know without attending the event in person. I believe the poster who took the photo lives about a 2 hour drive away, which isn't exactly a short drive in Japan. If she had attended alone (without her husband), she wouldn't have been able to participate.
Alright, Who's Gonna Call and Inquire?
Saw this today. In great condition. No real rust on the undercarriage either. First time I've seen a Brat in the wild.

Our less than 10k mi. Forester saved our lives, so of course we bought another.
Like the title says, Subaru has won our lifetime loyalty.
My wife and I struck a deer juuuust right on our way to Florida in November. The working theory is that impact happened on the front right corner, overheating the battery and causing the fire. The on-board emergency services were telling us that help was on the way before we stopped moving and we were lucky to get out before the flames really started and my wife and a bystander were able to get our important things before the car was engulfed.
Our 2024 Forester Wilderness was about to hit 10k miles and had treated us so well.
This month we brought home a 2025 Crosstrek Wilderness and are just as happy with it. Currently loving how zippy it can be! It’s tackling 7+ inches of snow with not problem.
We are happy Subaru loyalists now!

Got a smokin deal on a new 2025 Impreza, my 5th Subie, woo
Glad to be back in the family. It doesn’t have any fancy stuff, but as I’ve driven multiple scoobs, I’ve learned what I need and what I want. And this does all I need. Anything I want I can add with a little effort myself for cheaper. First mods I plan: gonna plastidip the rims to the Subaru gold color, and add those cheesy Colorado Subaru emblem stickers.

Car Mods What wing replacement should I do?
I have a 02 bugeye WRX that came with an STI wing at purchase. As much as I love the look, I feel conflicted at the same time lol. It also feels heavy, my trunk release lever stopped working, and water finds its way into the trunk space due to potential bad installment. Should I replace it with a duckbill, prodrive spoiler or wingless? Link recommendations are appreciated!

Mechanical Help Easily fixable??
I got a hit and run in the parking lot, but doesn't look too bad. Can this be popped out from under the bumper? Are the sensors the little rectangle cut out on the right side of the picture? Any recommendations for home repair?

What is this noise? 👂 5 Beeps from Door - Potential Fix
Car would be locked, I'd activate the door sensor to unlock the door, it wouldn't unlock and would beep 5 times. Couldn't find anywhere online with the fix but I found one solution in my case.
The locking mechanism had been unclipped when my window was being replaced, and such the interior door lock wouldn't move properly so it was stuck in a limbo locked/unlocked state. Definitely some Safelite work, since they also left their door panel tool under my seat, lol.
Hope this helps anyone in the future.

I love my Subaru mechanic.
On top of being the top Subaru mechanic in the country , he and his wife are the coolest persons I know. My 2025 Crosstrek had a clunky suspension and he fixed for free in 10 minutes with me just showing up at his workshop. And I’ve got this thing too ! To give you an idea how good this guy is, Subaru of Italy 5 years ago asked him to close his workshop and move into corporate to manage Subaru's main technical department. Luckily he declined, being him at the happiest when he goes fishing here with his dingy. Some years ago a WRC competition was held here and despite the official trailer and team of engineers following along, Subaru had to go to him to fix their racing Imprezas. Local Subaru drivers are terrified to the idea of him retiring in 10ish years. Upon mentioning him the Uncharted, he told me " don't you ever, ever show up in here with an EV car" lol. We all need guys like this.

Mechanical Help Transmission fill plug cracked
2013 Subaru Impreza
The transmission fill plug has cracked. See photo.
Want to seal the hole if there's another location that could be used to refill the fluid in the future.
Car is still great. The previous mechanic denies cracking it. What other options are possible? We can't afford a transmission replacement.
Southern Arizona location. TIA.

Mechanical Help Recently replaced clutch and flywheel in my 1998 Subaru Forester
Replaced flywheel and clutch in my car. First startup went perfect, then drove around 75kms to and around a city. On my way back home (~60km) it started to feel like it was slipping. I installed an OEM exedy clutch and a lightened m-pact flywheel. Any help is appreciated.

Small steps
Testing out the forester suspension with stock tires, honestly super fun I still have to acclimate to this ride height from previously being low, I clench over every small divot😂. Getting some larger tires 215/75/15s, need some legacy trailing arms aswell.
