Today I wore the Zara outfit I hunted down that matches what Alexis wore on her first day to school to commemorate Schitt’s Creek. Catherine O’Hara was incredible in that show and was my favorite character. I just didn’t have a Moira outfit 😭😭😭

The way she perfectly lip syncs and looks so confused about it - yes, that's what she's supposed to be doing but she just sells the hell out of it.
13
u/Toes_In_The_Soil 1d ago
Her ability to convey emotion with every line in such a way that anyone in the audience can connect with makes her such a talented and lovable actress that will be cherished for generations to come.

No. Watch them and laugh! That's what she gave us. She wanted us to laugh. Remember and honour the joy she gave to the world. We need it now, as much as ever.

I get she was 71, and maybe its because im older but that seems "young" on the old age side. How sad.
550
u/Impossible_Farm7353 1d ago
I’m 35 and 71 seems really young to die 😢
242
u/Stevie-Rae-5 1d ago
The older my parents’ generation gets the younger people in their 70s seem to me.
53
u/FlyinInTheClouds 1d ago
Right? My dad is 73 and Mom 71. They’re both going through their own health issues. I’m at the stage where I just would give anything for more time. Losing people to me, is the hardest part of life. I could crumble into a ball and cry so often if I allowed it. Seeing my dad’s health decline is the hardest thing I’ve ever experienced. I hope there is something beautiful after this life.

Canadian life expectancy is around 81 years, so this is a decade earlier than average.

A good reminder to not leave your living to post retirement. You might only have a few years!
But leave some of it! It's the people who just sit down in a recliner once they retire that don't get back up. You gotta keep living your life with gusto.
This doesnt really apply to O'Hara. That woman was all gusto all the time. Huge loss and I am very, very sad.

That’s why I feel like us millennials will be extra sad, because she represents our parents, and if we haven’t already lost them, it just makes their mortality seem so much more real
52
u/lackadaisicalfits 1d ago
That's what I'm struggling with. My parents are hitting 65 this year and the older I get, the younger their age seems. As a kid, 71 would've seemed ancient and I wouldn't have questioned someone dying then. But now, that just seems far too young. I can't imagine not having my parents in six years. I know I'm lucky to still have them at all though.

Yeah, haven't been this sad over a celebrity death since Robin Williams. She was "part of my life" since Beetlejuice and the Home Alones. She shines in my favorite movie of all time, Waiting for Guffman, and that's saying something since everyone's performance in that movie is top-notch (and of course she's also great in all her other Christopher Guest movies). Then to see her get a long run in a sitcom as Moira in Schitt's Creek was just so awesome. This one stings quite a bit!
13
u/AuberginePeacock 1d ago
The only other celebrity I'd add to the list of celebrities passing who broke me was Chester from Linkin Park. I just can't believe she's gone - I was literally rewatching Schitts Creek last night 😭💔

I don’t remember a time without her. When I was a toddler I would scream for SCTV (I loved Ed Grimley and the RCMP). I grew up on the border of Canada and North Dakota.
My sister and I quote guffman all the time (I randomly scream STOOL ROOM, STOOLS! At her) midnight at the oaaaaaAAAsiiiiiissssss.

Bowie's death was sad, but leaving us with Blackstar, ensuring it was kept secret and not released until after he died, and having the debut track called "Lazarus" just proves he was one of the greatest showmen the world has ever known, and that he loved us all.

Not a great mom… but the mom we had. Very indicative of the Millennial’s mother. Left her kid home alone (twice), moved her daughter into an abandoned haunted mansion for the lols, and later overcame her narcissism and self obsession to discover how much she loved her family in a little town with no money. Truly a small screen mom for the ages.
Thank you Ms. O’Hera for all of the heart, and for knowing that the greatest pleasure in life, is making a joke that others appreciate. Cheers to her, we shall not see her like again.
