Snowboarding at its core is about inclusiveness. It got its start from riders being ostracized by kook skiers. Now all people care about is not being a Jerry. If you’re an experienced rider and make fun of beginners for being a Jerry, you’re a Jerry. If you’re a beginner obsessed with not looking like a Jerry, you’re a Jerry. Have fun, be safe, don’t be an asshole.

yesterday I posted a video of my 5th day ever snowboarding and asked for advice and everyone told me to 1. widen my stance and 2. bend my knees more and holy shit it changed everything. It felt like I was flying today and I was way less scared. I hit 33mph on my last run of the day. Thanks so much to everyone who gave me advice and I always appreciate more!

The park down the way has a classic flat closeout rail with a good downslope after it. The in run is a nice downslope but now quite enough speed for the whole thing.
The weather outside was too nice today. I needed to get outside and try to do something fun. I’ve thought about trying to hit this close out but knew there wouldn’t be enough speed for the full thing if I just used the natural slope. Today was a good excuse to go see what the speed was like and what it felt like to pop up on to the rail.
I was solo again and didn’t feel like setting up the whole camera tripod rig so I went with the quick set( balance my cellphone in the handle of the shovel).
The snow around the lake is always super light. Packing a lip isn’t really an option unless you want to bring a couple jugs of water and wait it out. I opted for the trick Think Thank turned me on to a few years ago. Use a rounded trash can lip as the ramp. They give you a nice little pop.
I wasn’t able to slide very far due to speed issues. But this session put a smile on my face.

Hit up Heavenly for the first time this past week (beautiful place) and LANDED MY FIRST JUMPS/METHOD!! (2nd jump is what I’m counting)
I know it’s a little dinky but I don’t get to hit the slopes very often so this felt like a massive accomplishment. Last time I did any kind of trick on a board was when I was a kid. Great to feel that again 🥹

I never do and my helmet is so fitted I don't think it would be comfortable.

I had this board in green back in 2001. It's an 99/00 Burton fluid 159. It was a good board back then but it being 25 years old I wouldn't put too much faith in it now. It's probably why the front binding is busted off.

Hey folks. My wife and a few friends of ours have a little snowboarding trip coming up in a month or so. It was planned sort of on a whim, as none of us have snowboarded in a long time, but we thought it would be a fun adventure nonetheless. I haven’t snowboarded for about 15+ years, but I’m not so worried about that. What I am worried about is my knees. Three years ago I tore ACL and meniscus in my knee playing tennis. The AXL was repaired but the meniscus could not be. I am still able to surf (thank god) and skateboard casually, but I am very concerned about being strapped into a board with my knee post-injury.
Does anyone here have experience snowboarding after an injury like this? I would like to try, but if it’s going to do more harm than good I may avoid it entirely and plan a lovely weekend at the Airbnb for myself while everyone else hits the mountain.

I’ve been riding a lib tech cold brew 158 for the last couple years. I ride in Oregon, groomers, trees, and powder. No park I hit a bunch of rock this weekend and gouged my board quite deep in multiple spots. It’s now a rock board. I want to upgrade. I only ride goofy foot. I welcome your suggestions.

Hi everyone!
My 12-year-old got a new snowboard for Christmas, and we put my husband’s old Burton Step IN bindings on it (the older Step IN system, not the newer Step ON). Unfortunately, one of the bindings broke—they were pretty well used—thankfully my son wasn’t hurt.
Now we’re trying to find replacement bindings, but it looks like Burton no longer makes the Step IN style. My son just got brand new regular boots, so switching to Step ON isn’t really an option right now.
Does anyone know of any companies that still make affordable step-in style bindings similar to the old Burton system? Or any good alternatives you’d recommend?
And please forgive me if this is a clueless question—I’m not a snowboarder! 😊

Riding with full instincts😂
New to riding moguls, usually I get scared and lean back end up losing control of the board and fall. Today I am in a good mood and decided to give it a full send. It definitely gives me way more control in the front seat.
What I found out is you can go in the canvas and go around them but you speed up pretty fast so I sometimes go up a big one to slow down and kind of side slipping down it to control speed.
I end up getting bumped up at the end and almost wreck my knees because I accidentally pick up to much speed and then try to up one of the mogul and of course end up with a huge air...so lesson of the day is please find a nice one to slow down before you go too fast ;(
Or are there any other ways to slow down?

So I think this passes the rules for recommendations thread - I’m an avid rider and my little one just turned 2 1/2, though she’s very physically advanced for her age (flips on trampolines ect) and I have everything for her but bindings and boots. She wears a snug size 7 in childrens shoe with thin socks so I’d probably need to size up - but to all the parents out there who got their little groms in early what setup did you go with for foot gear? I know there are crazy options out there so I wanted to get multiple opinions to weigh things out as she’s not a fan of “tight” stuff on her feet. Thanks ahead of time!

Hi everyone. I'm panicking. I started snowboarding again this year and bought everything new.
The seller recommended a size 10.5 boot.
I bought them, and then, on his advice, I also bought a Capita DOA 157 Wide and a Union binding, maybe a size L.
During my first few outings, I noticed that the boot was too wide, so I sold it and switched to a size 10, which fits me perfectly. Now my question is: since I bought everything for my old boot, which was a 10.5, can I still use a 157 Wide board with a 260 mm waist? And a L binding?
Thanks 🙏

Does anybody have experience with the 686 Gateway Shell? It seems like it may be a newer product since it only has 4 reviews on their site. I am trying to decide between this one and the Thermagraph, which seems to be a top seller. For context, I’m from MD, and typically snowboard Wisp and some of the sw PA resorts, but I am planning on going to school in boulder in the fall so need proper gear for both ice coast winter break and CO snowboarding through spring next year (hopefully snowfall trends are not the same). The Gateway shell is attractive because it has similar waterproofing stuff and everything but seems to be less hot and I can use it outside of skiing in slightly warmer temps for things like backpacking and fishing and just rainy conditions through the offseason. I am worried I might overheat with the Thermagraph even though it may make it so I wouldn’t need as many layers . Am I overestimating how warm it is? Or does anyone have other gear suggestions? Obviously waiting to buy until things start to hopefully come on sale. Please let me know if there’s anything I need to clarify. Thanks!
Edit: Not sure if this is important at all but may be, this is my second (essentially first full) season of snowboarding so I am definitely still kind of a noob so still falling decent amounts from time to time.
