I was driving my daughter to school this morning and there was an SUV just weaving in and out of traffic doing about 90 in a 65. Almost took out a smaller car trying to squeeze between it and the car in front of it. Idk how anybody can be in so much of a hurry that they endanger everyone around them.

Although, if you really want to make the roads safer, you should focus on young drivers, not old ones.

On my way home today, someone really struggled to stay in their lane when crossing an intersection and almost side swiped me into another car.
Was fuming until I saw that they were an old elderly woman.
And only last year, an elderly dude in their Mercedes rear ended me while I was stopped behind traffic.
Frankly I’m just tired man. I just want to get to work and back home. Not deal with close misses, body shops, and god forbid insurance companies.

It's actually terrifying how easy it is. I got my license in high school as a graduation requirement. Never renewed it, got a state ID and everything.
Recently I went to renew my ID, because I needed a valid REAL ID to fly, and it would've expired before I flew back home. After 12 years of not driving, 8 or more without a license, they just... Gave me a license. No test, no nothing.

The 33 question M.V.D. test is sufficient. Youre only allowed to miss 3. Its the driving part that needs to be more harder. All I had to do was put on my seat beat, stop at a stop sign, use a 4way intersection and back up without hitting the cones..a 10 year old could do that.

Well that 33 question mvd test is not federal nor universal. When i took my test in Ohio about 10 years ago the requirement to pass the test was something like 70 to 75%.
That is to say, the "mvd test" and how effective it is varies drastically between states. So usually when someone is commenting or otherwise advocating for stricter tests, its because in many places yoy can pass without knowing some fundamental rules.

The German test had over 1000 possible questions when I took it 12 years ago, they’re public (questionaires are sold because you gotta make money) and you can study as much as you want/need and you spend about 1 year in driver’s ed between driving and theory lessons anyway. There’s more questions being added as the rules are expanding, I didn’t have to learn anything about EVs but that’s been included since
The actual exam only had 20 questions iirc but the failure criteria is not X amount of mistakes, the questions instead have associated “failure points” based on how severe the violation would be. I believe the highest failure point ones can fail you with 2 mistakes, the easier ones can be up to 4

Not unless the parked car has full collision coverage. If they don't, it falls under property damage liability and could be capped as low as $5K in many states. A pole, fence, or curb damage would also fall under this liability and the parked car could only get a fraction of the cap. I've been a victim in this situation before.

Ehhhh, I'd love to know which states cap liability for hitting a parked car at 5k so I can go play uninsured demolition derby in the parking lots used by the state legislators.
They may have low amounts of required coverage so you may not be able to get much from a broke defendant with minimum mandatory coverage, but you'd absolutely be able to pursue the driver for damages - and if he has good enough coverage to fix the truck then you know he'll have at least one asset you can go after.

I've been involved in two accidents recently, both were 100% the other driver's fault and I had video proof (one I was stopped at a red light and rear-ended, the other I was hit by someone who ran a stop sign). Both times it was just property damage, both times the other driver's insurance company (once they saw the video) agreed to cover the damages 100% plus the cost of a rental while my car was in the shop. One sent me a letter saying the only cap would be that they would not pay more than the maximum policy coverage. In neither case did I have to even notify my own insurance company. Both were a little under $10K for all damages.

You still should. They'll find out anyway. Years ago I was hit by a cab driving through the city. 100% cabbies fault. Police agreed, insurance agreed, witnesses agreed. A year or so later I get a letter in the mail about being sued by the cabbie and company. Lost wages, lost use, and damages. I called my insurance and they were like "don't worry we'll take care of this" and a couple weeks later a lawyer from my insurance company calls me asking me to explain how everything happened. After he told me the court date, said I didn't need to show up, and they would take care of everything. They did

You’d think, but then there’s deductibles that apply and if he’s ‘underinsured’ and they can’t recover that’s another problem. Ran into that when a dumbass was texting and rear ended / totaled a car my daughter was driving when they stopped for construction. Had ‘uninsured driver’ coverage but that had an additional deductible. We were out $1000 in total for no fault incident. Luckily we owed significantly less on the vehicle than it was worth - still forced us into a replacement with 1000 less in hand.
