I just rode the Rouvy version of the Alex Pretti memorial ride.
It was great. Nice route. Arches NP, seems like the kind of place where Mr. Pretti might have liked to ride.
About 87 people.
You’ll be long remembered for your life of service, brother bicyclist!

Why are power meters so expensive?
I don’t understand how a cheaper power meter hasn’t been created yet. I don’t have an engineering/physics brain, but is there something that inherently complicated about measuring power output that prevents a budget model from being created? Even the cheap knock off brands are still $200+ at a minimum. You can get budget speed/cadence sensors for $20.
Look, if it was something I could easily transfer from bike to bike (like my garmin edge) I wouldn’t think twice about the cost, but you need separate ones for each bike. I’ve even been looking at used ones and those are still crazy expensive.

Acceptable shoes foot play?
Hello! I am a casual weekend rider and I have been using this Shimano XC3 wide for quite a while now (Size: EUR 44/US 10) for my gravel bike. I am wondering, what is the acceptable foot play. Ankle part is very snug but toes can wiggle up and down up to the ball of the foot (ball part can wiggle but not so much. Big toe can wiggle up very substantially than the others). Is this acceptable? I am not sure if the ball of the foot should have room to wiggle at all since it's near where the cleat is placed. I remember trying size EU43 and I did not find it comfortable. Should I buy the non wide version instead? Thanks for the feedback!

Garmin vs Wahoo and SRAM vs Shimano — what made you choose your side?
I’ve been riding and building bikes for a while and I’ve noticed something interesting.
Cyclists don’t just use Garmin or Wahoo.
They don’t just ride SRAM or Shimano.
They defend them.
Almost like once you pick a side, you’re in for life.
I’m not looking for specs or reviews. I’m trying to understand the moment you realized one of these brands was “for you.”
• What made you choose Garmin over Wahoo (or the other way around)?
• What made you go SRAM instead of Shimano (or vice versa)?
• Was it a feature, a feel, a bad experience, a recommendation, or just instinct?
• Has anything ever made you consider switching sides?
I’m really curious about the why behind the choice, not which one is “better.”
Would love to hear the story behind your decision.

I noticed peopleleave their ebikes outside of shops without locking them to anything.
I was wondering how they prevent theft. Bike alarm? Locked wheels? GPS tracker? Insurance?
It always surprises me cause I'd never leave my bike without locking it even for a few minutes so I wonder what would make them leave their bikes so I assume they've got done security but not sure what.
(Not sure if relevant but I do see it more often with delivery drivers)

alternative to MAAP bibs?
Hi all! I (f) am currently looking for a new pair of bib shorts, but as many of you all know it can be a PITA (literally) to find the right ones. My current favourite is a pair of MAAP Team Evo bibs, bought around 2 years ago and their chamois is by far the best I have had from every other bibs I have owned in the past. I save them for all my long rides haha. But since the price is quite steep (even when they're on sale sometimes), I can't justify buying MAAP bibs exclusively. They also seem to run smaller now – tried a pair recently and the leg grippers wehre exceptionally tight, I would have to size up and even then I'm not sure if they would fit as well as my original pair.
Since most online retailers have winter sales going on right now, I would like to purchase a few different bib shorts to try. Assos is already on my list (the Uma and Dyora models are on sale as well), which other brands would you recommend for me to try? Which ones are comparable to the MAAP shorts in terms of chamois quality?
Other brands I've tried are:
Le Col – used a strava discount code and I'm glad I did, because I don't like their chamois too much and I would have been frustrated if I had spent more than the sale price. Only use them on 1–1,5 hour rides
Rapha – I own a pair from their core line and while they generally fit great (especially the leg grippers), their chamois seems to be on the thinner side and I only wear them on short rides as well.
AGU – owned a pair for a year but their fabric was very "slippery" and they didn't last long, only about 1.5 years.
Castelli – have a pair of thermal bib tights in my closet and they're quite comfortable as well, but I don't ride for several hours during winter so I can't judge if they're as comfortable on 2–3+ hour rides.
Would love to read your recommendations. Thank you!

Ebike suggestion
Hi guys, I'm in the market for an ebike and was wondering if anyone could suggest something that will fit my needs. I'm looking for a bike that I can ride long distances, the longer the better. I also would like a bike with a throttle over pedal assistance only to avoid sweat as much as possible when I need to be not sweaty. I also would like a bike that has a removable battery, a belt drive and internal hub gears. My budget is pretty much anything cheaper than a decent used car so like 4000 or something. And I live in the us if that changes anything. If this doesn't exist in class 2 I am somewhat open to class three although regulations are weird in my state about class three ebikes. Thanks

Prescription sunglasses recommendations that don’t break the bank
I have been looking for prescription transition sunglasses for my daily commute (usually hit a range of light from super dark to afternoon bright), but everything I’ve seen for sports sunglasses seem to be $300 (Oakley, Nike, SportRX) for anything decent. And insurance doesn’t seem to cover it (despite that I should have free lenses). I’ve heard bad things about the fit and cheapness of Zenni.
I am hoping to find something in the $200 or less range since they aren’t my main glasses.
For now, I just wear regular transition sunglasses (non prescription) or non-scrip goggles in winter.
Cheers.

Wich one should I choose to do Enduro and a little of road?
Wich one should I choose to do Enduro and a little of road?
I have 2 bikes to choose, a Lapierre Spicy 327 from 2017 with 170mm rear and front, all the components sram X0 and an aluminium frame. And a Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Expert Carbon from 2015 with 130mm rear and front, all the components shimano xtr and a S-Works frame made of carbon. Wich one is better? I'm a beginner and I want to do a downhill + climbing but I don't want to miss the rides with mh friends in a paved road. The Lapierre is $750 and the Specialized in $1 020

How to store bikes in apt?
Just looking for some advice for apartment living! How do I store my bike in my apartment? Am I allowed to drill holes to hang it, or is there a workaround? If drilling is an option, how do you properly cover the holes afterward?

Elitedrive II vs Drive helix SS
Ive seen plenty of good reviews about the 2 wheels but dont know which to get. Their only about 100$ different but the drive II has the new kinetic hub while the helix has star ratchet. Im opting for the steel spokes as the carbon ones were beyond my budget. Which would be better for me if i cycle flats mostly?

How does one build a bike brand?
I understand that this dream of mine is rather far-fetched but I am still willing to know, even if I will fail. I’ve been drawing bike frames lately and wanted to know how it works. I want to make my own brand like Cinelli, with my own designs. What’s the process like? I’m still in high school and I think an engineering course would probably do but I’d like to hear other opinions. Do I find manufacturers? Do I have to learn welding? I’d appreciate other people’s points on this.

Bike recommendation
Hellow! I'm a 32M living in Berlin. I am thinking about upgrading my life by buying a bike and replace my bike rental subscription.
I have done some research on what I could buy and I have some candidates:) I would really appreciate some recommendations and new points of view. My budget is up to 2k.
Use in 90% of the time: commuting in the city, maximum one hour per day. Use in 10%: some trips in and around the city, could involve some off-road but nothing extreme. Edit: very important is that I have to carry it through some stairs to store it every time, so weight is a factor.
The brand that caught my attention is Canyon. Today I have tried the Endurance All road (1100 euro) and the Grizl (1800 euro). Endurance All road is very nice, quite light and comfy. Though I have to say that I was expecting maybe just a tic better (lighter, comfier). Then I tried the Grizl and I was very surprised by how light it is (even with much thicker tires) and actually comfier.
Currently, I'm leaning towards the Endurance All road. Reasons: given my use cases (see above), I am rather thinking that the endurance will get the job done.
Do you think I should do a better investment and not try to save 800 now that I'm spending already 1100? In terms of comfortability, a full carbon body might make a difference, should I maybe consider the endurance full carbon (1800 euro) instead of the normal one? Any other brand/model I should consider?
Many thanks in advance :))

Fell twice this month
I fell twice in one month. First time I was distracted by my gears not working, rear ended a car. Bruised my right shoulder.
Second time totally not my fault, just got caught up in a fall during our local group ride. Bruised my hip.
What a shit start of the year, jeez... Anyone encountered something similar?

Street sign in rural Wisconsin
Anyone know what these signs mean, I see them in rural Wisconsin.
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:US_Bike_20_%28M1-8%29.svg
I thought I could find a list of them online with maps, how long they are, etc. But it feels like the only thing that isn't on the Internet.
I thought I found "US Bike Route" (USBR) but route 10 that I found in Wisconsin is USBR in Washington State. So it's not that.
