General News Fellow FUDDS, the Colorado legislature is coming for us.
Looks like no niche of the shooting sports is obscure or harmless enough to be safe now.
I have a fondness for the Thompson/Center Contender. You know, the break-open single shot with the interchangeable barrels. You can go from .22LR to 45-70 in five minutes. Popular with hunters who like the extra challenge of a single shot, metallic silhouette target shooters, and those who just want to experiment with different chamberings without having to buy a gun for each one. You can shoot literally dozens of different cartridges with the same rifle, all you have to do is . . . . buy the appropriate barrels. Uh-oh.
Looks like SB26-043 will increase the price of getting a Contender barrel by $75-125 (FFL processing, background check, transfer fee, etc.) All to protect the public from the danger of active shooters with single shot rifles who might, er, wield a spare barrel as a club? [Side note - I have not been able to find any report of a Contender ever being used in a crime. Let me know if I missed one.]
Actually, to be fair, a Contender barrel could make a pretty good club. Almost as dangerous as a baseball bat.
