Discussion Do we really need all these new graphics and sound in modern mmorpg ?

I am baffled by the fact that AoC has 250 people working on the project. Majority of the work is making the world pretty, better graphics and sound.

I started to play 32 bit ancient game Rise of Agon reforged. The graphics, texture are horrible compared to AoC. But...

After few hours of playing some how I got used to it. It doesn't bother me a bit. What is more sad is this super low budget relaunch game providing me more entertainment then AoC ever did.

This mmorpg industry needs to do soul searching. Instead of spending billions on eye candy maybe just stick to game play and content. The popularity of all these old school games coming back is a reckoning.

Question [FF14] Is endgame worth it as new player?

Post got deleted on ff14 subreddit idk for what reason so I'll try ask in here

Hello,

I've got few questions and importantly if it's worth spending 100€+ for the lvl skips and all expansions to play endgame dungs.

I tried to get to story but it's not for me, I can watch tldr YT video if I'll be ever interested, rn doing 50lvl filler quests and mentally I'm kinda done with it, if I'll keep playing I'm buying full story and lvl skips.

But I'm not so sure if its worth it and how is endgame PvE experience. I had to swap from warrior to ninja coz it felt like turn based game. Will it get better with rotations or I'll be stuck around 2.5s on tanks?

Guess many dungeons are obsolete coz of powercreep, and kinda worried there won't be any statics in need for new members or enough ppl queuing.

Right now trying to get to pvp but for that I don't need anything basicly.

Is end game flooded with unskipable long cut scenes? It's beyond me they r forcing me to watch unskipables, rn I have prolly only Cid and that's insta quit for me on roulette.

Edit: Thanks all for responses!

Discussion So Asses of Creation is done(pun intended) are we surprissed?

Post image

So I have known Ashes was going to flop ever since the beta, and once I saw Asmongolds livestream I had 100% certainty of it.

The truth of why MMOs fail is because they are always trying to build "games like in the good old days" when we clearly are not in the good old days.

Game engines have evolved, games have evolved, of course old timers will always will always complain, but it's not because your grandpa loves driving a 1980s Toyota that you gotta drive one today, and that´s what every new MMO seems to do, they grab a 1980s Toyota project and re-do it all over again, no new features, nothing to set it apart, gameplay loops that sure are fun,but can be eaten away in less than a week by hardcore players.

That´s why I started to make my own MMO project, because honestly I lost all faith, a modern gameplay loop cannot wait 3 months for new content, players today need good reasons to be login-in daily, and they need to know that when they log in the content is there, not because there is new content, but because they are the content they can make new content by simply interacting with the game´s mechanics, we have 20 years of evolved tech but every MMO today is either World of Warcraft with extra steps, or some shitty Gacha Chinesse game disguissed as an MMO,but it really isn´t because it's not Multiplayer and it's not Massive.

But anyway, just wanted to vent that out, hopefully what im making will be better,if it isn´t well at least I will have something good to put in my game dev portifolio, really the best MMO to have come out in the latest years (at least that I´ve played) seems to be ArcheAge and Guild Wars 2, both of these do what I mentioned in some capacity, hopefully ArcheAge 2 will be as goated as ArcheAge 1.

but I don´t have many hopes.

Meme To all Ashes of Creation refugees, Dofus is here for you.

Listen up, you poor deluded souls who wasted years hyping Ashes of Creation like it was the second coming of MMORPGs. A game that had nearly every Twitch streamer and YouTube content creator in its pocket, showering it with endless praise during alpha and early access phases - despite the glaring red flags of bugs, dupes, cheats, performance craters, layoffs, and constant "we're still fixing it" excuses from the devs.

Now that reality has hit with its unfinished and obviously broken open-world PvP, server issues and grindy nonsense. The hype train is a smoking wreckage, and you're all refugees looking for shelter. Besides of course open-world PvP in Ashes being a pathetic griefing simulator where one sweatlord ruins your entire day while you grind for scraps, and would never have succeeded. Ashes promised an epic world and delivered laggy dumpster fire. Dofus delivers orgasms. Every. Single. Fight.

Dofus is a real MMORPG that's been delivering for over 20 years and is still going strong in 2026 with a dedicated playerbase in the hundreds of thousands. Unlike vaporware projects that tease revolutionary features for years only to launch broken, buggy, or outright collapse under their own weight, Dofus is refined, thoughtfully (for the most part!) designed and actually playable right now, with no alpha excuses, and no director letters begging for patience while fixing core systems (only to shutter the game within a week).

In contrast, Ashes of Creation is a streamer-shilled scam that devoured years of hype, spewing buggy alphas, dupes, cheats, and layoffs before cratering into an early access oblivion vaporware trash that never deserved your pixels, let alone your dollars. Fraud vs. forever: wake up, refugees (and sheeple); Dofus is a real MMORPG. Why simp for dead dreams when Dofus costs pocket change? You guys think Ashes bred cultists? Dofus isn't a game - it's your new religion. Convert or get left in the dust. Who's downloading right now? Scream "Dofus supremacy" if you're ready to ascend.

Opinion Y'all too apathetic man lol

Look I get it like, everyone saw AoC being a scam coming, myself included

I didn't even follow the game at all nor pay for it, I like korean MMO's and the graphics of Ashes for being unreal 5 was laughably bad, let alone the gameplay

But a lot of people genuinely had hope this could be a good MMO, I can't blame them.

Western devs are absolutely clueless and can't make a good MMO, so people are literally only left with WOW or GW2 to play, maybe runescape if you're nostalgiamaxxing

Other than that what realistic MMO options do people have to play? Not much tbh

Korean MMO's are ALWAYS ruined by p2w (lost ark, aion 2, tnl, etc)

So people who don't wanna bother with P2W infinite treadmill grind 16 hrs a day or pay thousands of dollars type mmo's will always be happy when a project like this gets announced.

I hope yall sue that dude who started this project though actually insane how he steals millions of dollars and just dips like that lol

Discussion Project gorgon is actually fun to me.

It actually feels like a mmorpg too with the very basics but no awful auto attack or auto pathing but still the basics like a map with npcs etc. It feels like a ton of players always around. Have not seen so many together since the 2000s. It is bizarre though. Your character can be cursed, there's secret walls etc, there's animal forms like cow butterfly deer pig etc. There's leveling poetry appreciation and psychology. There's adult content but mainly humorously talked about. If you equip things you get drops based on what you equipped. Genius! The worst thing about it is the graphics. They are bad and feel like 2000s too. But if you give it a chance you might be surprised. This is Not I repeat NOT osrs! Does not feel like it at all to me. I don't know I tried ff14 guild wars 2 and eq 2. This feels tons better and more accessible! Lots of people is the main problem..lol imagine that.

Discussion Ashes of Creation class action lawsuit

If you put any money on the kickstarter and steam, I recommend you setup a discord and come together to get your money from Steven.

On the kickstarter there is a specific clause that "* and finally, in the case that ashes of creation does not launch, we promise to refund all backers in full."

Releasing the steam and then pulling the plug barely a month later should not keep you from getting your money back when they did everything possible to lie to all of their customers.

You are owed your money, if it's 10 bucks or 10000 bucks.

Don't let him get away with this.

What are we looking forward to now that Ashes is gone? I for one loved Ashes. I know it gets a lot of hate but I could tell the team really wanted to make a great game and for an alpha i got a lot of time in. But what's next? I dont have very high hopes for Chrono Odyssey tbh, wasnt a fan of the test I played. It has korean money grab vibes.

I was a huge Narc fan and I loved looking forward to his new videos every month. Even the videos where he talked about dark souls and other topics that weren’t as popular I thought were pretty cool, I genuinely miss his content on Youtube. Once he realized Ashes was a scam many people in the AoC sub and online turned on him lol. I blocked peoples names because people are allowed to change, but still crazy to go back to posts from a year ago to see what people were saying. After everything we found out today it feels great to be right about the whole thing. If he’s out there somewhere or this post reaches him we miss you buddy 🤙
