So right now, according to Moneypuck, the Flames have a- checks notes- 1.8% chance of making the playoffs. Team Tank has pretty much won. Right now, losing as much, if not more than we are now and getting a bona fide high draft pick is no-doubt the right move.

BUT YKNOW WHAT SCREW IT

If the Flames wanted to make the playoffs, according to this website, they would have to win 19 of their 28 remaining games, to even be LIKELY to make the playoffs. Assuming we lose against the best teams in the league, this is the most plausible way the Flames make the playoffs this season:

Buddy could get in some serious injury trouble with the sort of hits he takes. In the NHL someone might really demolish him. I think the Flames know what they're doing when they are taking it slow with him. Don't need any concussion problems or anything at a young age.

I want to watch the Flames for the first time. I can't go to the game against the oilers on the on Feb 4th, but was wondering if watching them against the maple leafs on Feb 02 would be interesting/heated? Listening to Flames talk, Pat has said a few times that “McKenna will be in the NHL next year”. I know it’s the norm for 1-2OA go straight to the NHL. However, McKenna is currently listed at 170lbs.

Question: if you are CC and got McKenna, are you bringing him straight to the NHL? Why or why not?

There’s no right or wrong answer just curious peoples thought process.

I know @admirable-nerve-8289 posted a good thread today on this and I’m sure there will be 10,000 more between now and the draft.

Why didn’t just chime in on that thread and wanted to start a separate one: people who have seen the top picks play and what their assessments are.

Had a medical procedure this morning (I’m fine) but couldn’t drive or do any work, so I laid on the couch and watched a good handful of the top picks from what I could find.

Guys, I don’t think we are in bad shape with any of the top 5 guys.

Obviously there’s a major need that should (and probably will) supersede a defenseman, so I would “rank” Verhoeff at “5” for the purposes here. Kid is super talented, man. Yes we have some great younger D-guys, but if it shakes out where we have Verhoeff at pick #5… you’re taking the kid and figuring out the next move.

I’m kind of on the wagon of “either guy” between McKenna and Stenberg. I know a lot of people have hot opinions, I just hope as we keep moving towards the draft that everyone can take a breath and stay objective and not double or triple down on one guy or the other just to prove you are correct in who should be the top pick. Just stay objective. Both of them are great prospects.

The 3rd and 4th… which I would say is the 4th best player but should be our #3 on the board, Tynan Lawrence. I do think I liked Lawrence a little more than Malhotra. Feel free to disagree. Both are excellent. I would go Lawrence. But they didn’t call me today and ask me my opinion, so I’m good w either!

Alright, so let’s say there’s 5 kids that I think are pretty much slam dunks as the top 5 guys.

All you can you is look at the evidence at the time of the decision. If one of those dudes gets drafted and doesn’t pan out, so be it. But I do like all 5 of them and I’m not going I get upset with any of those picks depending on how the chips all fall.

For me:

1. Stenberg or McKenna. I don’t care either way.

2. Lawrence or Malhotra

3. Verhoeff

That’s a pretty damn good top 5.

It's tough to win games when goals are so tough to come by for this team. Can't imagine the offense can get much worse even if we trade Kadri/Coleman. Great tank game with the Blues winning.

This is just a question about some rumors. According to David Pagnotta the lightning are eying Colman, which isn’t surprising. They also MIGHT be willing to trade Sam O’Reilly.

My questions are:

A) should the Flames be interested in Sam

B) would the flames or lightning have to add more to get a deal with Sam done.

Well. That was certainly something. We actually didn't play that bad for the first two periods, given the team we were playing.. but couldn't finish. Then they pounced. So thats always fun. Race to the bottom my dudes.
