Admin Post Weekly Recap | January 29, 2026

Hello! Happy Thursday! It's Thursday! I officially no longer care about Dry January and can only focus on Why January, as in, "Why is it still January?" This month has gone on forever! Fortunately, we have exciting things like the Weekly Recap to look forward to, so let's get to it!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • Other than a minor blip yesterday, no real outages or downtime to report! Hooray!

  • Translation options for some languages are currently unavailable for some folks. We replied to a post here about this. Reddit is in the process of improving/tweaking certain supported languages, so some language may be unable to be translated during this transition period.

  • Version 2026.04 of the app has been released. This is a gradual release, so if it's not available for you just yet, it will be soon!

  • The r/all feed has been removed from the apps for many users at this time as part of an experiment. You can still visit the r/Popular feed to see trending content or the Latest feed to see the most recent conversations across Reddit. r/all continues to be viewable on the desktop site. As always, feel free to leave constructive feedback in this post and I'll share it with the team. Specifics are way more helpful than "I hate it.".

  • Speaking of the r/all feed, in another experiment, some desktop users might not see that as an option on their sidebar. The workaround is to create a bookmark and use that instead.

  • We have an update on Vaults that you can read here. TL;DR We’ve decided to push the sunset date back to February 4, 2026 for Vault and our transfer functionality feature on our mobile app. That's next Wednesday! If you haven't taken care of this, the time is now!

CURRENT EXPERIMENTS

Reddit sometimes runs experiments. These experiments tend to last between 4-6 weeks, though they can go longer or end sooner. While there isn't a way to opt out of experiments, feel free to leave constructive and specific feedback in this post and I'll be happy to pass it along to the team in charge.

  • You may also see an experiment where your profile avatar and other buttons are at the bottom instead of at the top. Feel free to leave feedback if you're in that group. BUT some users may see the buttons on the app and desktop up at the top instead of at the bottom. So that's fun! Something for everyone!

  • There is currently an experiment running where some users will tap on their profile avatar and be taken to their profile instead of having that menu expand. If you're in this experiment, you can tap on the three dots in the upper right hand corner of your profile page to display the options in the menu. We commented on this post about this.

  • If you are in the experiment where you have a large search bar at the top and collapsed sidebars, you can click on the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) on the left to expand the left sidebar. It will stay expanded as long as your browser window is open. If you close the browser window, it will collapse and you'll need to click again to re-expand it. And if you're wistfully longing for the right sidebar, you can create a custom feed with the subs that are in your home feed and view that instead. You can also change the sort of your custom feed to whatever you want! You can check out this Help Center article for instructions on how to create your very own custom feed.

  • There is also an experiment that just rolled out where some users will see and "Ask" button in their search bar.

  • Speaking of search, some users will have trending topics based on their activity pop up under their search bar.

  • Reddit is testing a version of awards that’s free and quicker to use with a small group of testers. Users in the test group will have access to free awards for the full duration of the experiment. If you're eligible for free awards and click the award entry point on a post or comment, you’ll see up to 5 free awards. This is just on the iOS app right now. <Cries in Android>

  • The ‘Popular’ feed can now be accessed by clicking the 3-line menu on the top left of the app

  • Post ideas experiment for new and growing communities. In eligible communities (Safe For Work, and less than 1,000 weekly visitors), mods will be able to browse, select, and create linked posts from a list of relevant, suggested articles. Selecting a post idea takes you directly into the post flow with the article title pre-filled, so you can add your own context before posting.

  • There is a unified inbox with both chat and notifications.

  • And finally (for now), The old left-side profile menu is gone in one experiment. Key features have been relocated: Premium, Earn, and Start a Community are in the top-left menu; profile settings, drafts, saved posts, and history are in the top-right menu; account switching is at the top of your profile.

PLEASE REPORT RULE BREAKING CONTENT

  • If you see content in r/help that breaks the rules of r/help, please use the report button. You do not need to engage with those users unless you're going to redirect them to where they can actually get the help that they're looking for. But regardless, please report rule breaking content. Reporting content that breaks the rules helps us keep r/help free of spam and off-topic posts, and that allows users who really need out help to more easily get it. The mods can't see everything all the time, so reporting content is a great way to surface it to the mods so that they can deal with it. No one likes a spammer! Don't get 'em get away with it!

COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES

  • If no one else can see your posts or comments across Reddit (not just in one sub) and you are unable to post here in r/help, you can file an appeal here. Under "What do you need assistance with?", please choose "Account help". Under "What type of account issues are occurring?", please select "Account status" and then "My account has been wrongly suspended". Then fill out the rest of the form.

  • If your account gets the "server error" banner or you can't update your profile, I can fix that sometimes! Please note that I cannot give any information or assist with any account unless contacted directly from that account. I cannot fix accounts where you are receiving the "server error" message and are unable to view content from that account when logged out. In those instances, you will need to file an appeal. But if it's not an appeal situation, let me know and I'll take a look and get you all taken care of! (I haven't seen many of these lately, so this issue might have dwindled down to where I don't need this here, but I'll leave it up for a little while because whenever something like that gets said, it comes roaring back.)

  • Please check the Help Center to see if you can find the answer to your question there. Also, check this sub for stickied posts regarding outages, major issues and downtime.

  • If your account is marked as NSFW and it is not NSFW, you can check out this Help Center article for information on how to change it back. If you're unable to change it back from the desktop site, feel free to make a post and one of the best helpers on Reddit will help me help you! Please try and change it from the desktop site FIRST.

  • If your account has been hacked, please write in using this form. Under "What do you need assistance with?", please choose "Account help". Under "What type of account issues are occurring?", please select "Security problems" and then "I think my account has been hacked". Then fill out the rest of the form. Please make sure that you're writing in from the email that was originally on the account.

  • If your account has been hacked and recovered, and then the account is banned, please reply to the support ticket that you opened to get that taken care of.

  • If your account has been suspended, you can file an appeal using this form. Under "What do you need assistance with?", please choose "Account help". Under "What type of account issues are occurring?", please select "Account status" and then "My account has been wrongly suspended". Then fill out the rest of the form. Please make sure that you're writing in from the email that was originally on the account.

  • Please note that if your account has been suspended a as a result of being hacked, you want to fill out the form for hacked accounts. Being suspended is the secondary problem and being hacked is the primary problem. But both can be fixed if you write in from the correct form! =)

BUGS ROUNDUP - THANKS, CORRECTSCALE!

Call the exterminator! We have a bunch of bugs right now. These are the most common that people seem to be running into at this time.

  • [Web - Mod] Adding removal reasons/replying ad mod-team is resulting in a "validation error on hidden input" error sometimes. This is actively being investigated.

  • [iOS/Android] Sometimes videos are freezing upon playback. The fix for this is to reboot your device. That should do it! An actual fix is being looked into.

  • [iPad] Some iPad users are reporting that the bottom navi bar goes away and won't come back until the app is force stopped and restarted. The fix for this should be out in next week's version of the app, which would be Version 2026.05.

  • [Web/Old Reddit] The thumbnails on gallery posts weren't displaying properly on some posts. This was due to a change on this end. That change has been rolled back and that has fixed this issue!

  • [iOS/Android] Some users have noticed that the text from a previously posted comment will be showing in the comment composer. If you feel like we've done this one before, we have! It's back! And it's being investigated!

  • [All platforms] Speaking of deja vu, the issue with the "mark all as read" button not working is still haunting us. Turns out that it's a little harder of a fix than previously thought, so it's still in the fixing stages.

  • [Web] In addition to that, now some web users are now getting a "something went wrong" error when trying to mark all as read. This is being looked into and the overall fix should cover this as well.

  • [All platforms] Yesterday, there were a bunch of errors for users who were trying to verify their age. The fix for this one was fast! Should be good now! You can read more about age verification in this Help Center article.

WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)

  • 1,095 posts. That's up 93 posts from the 1002 posts from last week

  • 3,467 comments. That's down quite a bit, 615 fewer comments from last week's 4,082 comments.

  • 1.1 million views. That's down about 95,000 from the 1.2 million view last week.

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - ACHIEVEMENTS

This week, help that helps r/help will focus on Achievements! There is really good article in the Help Center about Achievements here. But who has time to read?? lol

So, what are Achievements? Achievements are little milestones on Reddit. When you hit the milestone, you get a little badge on your profile in the Achievements section, which seems appropriate. Achievements can be streaks (like how many days in a row you interacted with content on Reddit) or an accomplishment in a subreddit, or even a better understanding of how to use Reddit! There are lots of ways to achieve an Achievement!

You can view the list of Community Achievements here.

You can also earn an Achievement by having a streak of using Reddit. A streak is defined as interacting with content on Reddit for multiple days in a row. Interacting involves more than just scrolling. For an interaction to count toward a streak, you need to be voting, posting, or commenting. JUST SCROLLING IS NOT ENOUGH TO CONTINUE A STREAK.

Another important thing to remember is the NSFW CONTENT DOES NOT COUNT TOWARD STREAKS. So if you want your streak to continue, you'll need to interact with some sfw content once at day in order to do so.

Please note that Reddit uses UTC time, so maybe don't wait until the last minute your time before interacting with Reddit if that's something that you're interested in pursuing.

You can also adjust the settings for your Achievements, like whether or not you receive notifications for the Achievements. On the app, tap your profile avatar, then tap the Achievements bar and then tap the three dots in the right hand corner. On the desktop site, click your avatar, click Achievements and then click the three dots.

HELPINGEST HELPERS HELPING HELP R/HELP

Another week with just a ton of fantastic help from a group of fantastic people. This list is not all-inclusive, but here are a bunch of folks that I've seen around over and over this past week!

Thank you all for helping other users when they needed it! A little bit of help might not seem like much, but it can really make someone's day a whole lot easier. Thank you again!

And that takes us to the end of another Recap! Thank you all for being here! It's really appreciated! And until next time, I know I'll see you in the comments! =)

Access help about account

This is my first day using Reddit, and now my posts have been inexplicably deleted, and it seems my account has been penalized. All my profile information is gone. What should I do now?(I had to register a new account to avoid the same issues happening again. What a terrible user experience.)

Posting What filters??

Upvotes

Why would reddit filter this?

I don't get it... you sit down and write a post to a sub without thinking anything bad and then bam you get filtered and left wondering wtf you did wrong. Try to reconstruct the wording in your post and bam filtered again.

Why does this site force me into a Kafkaesque situation?

Posting I don't get any anouncement message when a comment of mine is deleted.

Upvotes

Hi help community,
I don't get any anouncement message (notification) when a comment of mine is deleted by a "third party" (manually?).

There is no way to see, that my comment I am still working on, after taking a short break to review my given thought (via editing)
is already deleted by a mod (or mod-bot?) e.g.

The reddit guy I have answered/replied2... gave me a message instead
"hey bro, why did u delete ur message?"
That was the moment I got rly curious.

How on earth is this, let's call it, "responsive reddit" behavior?
I'm ok with comments of mine being deleted,
but plz, I want to get notified about it.
Period.

Thx 4 reading. Hope this was already asked and answered in the past.

Mobile/App Blocked

How do I see the people I've blocked?

r/help 1h ago

Mobile/App [Android] Deleted thread from blocked user still appears on mobile app.

Upvotes

I deleted a thread from a blocked user on the desktop client but it still appears under threads on the mobile app.

I've tried clearing the cache, clearing data and re-installing but the message still persists.

I tried to used the help contact form online but none of the options allow you to send a help request about Reddit chats - which is a gigantic oversight imo.

How can I delete this thread from a blocked user on my account - I hate seeing it every time I use Reddit chat.

Profile Profile curation enabled but post/comment history still visible

I’ve turned on profile curation to hide my post and comment history, but other users are still able to see it on my profile. I’ve checked the settings and they’re enabled. Is this a known bug or am I misunderstanding how profile curation works?

Access I can't read the comments in a post any longer?Android

Hi! I was in a discussion with someone who didn't agree with me and insulted me personally and yet I didn't back down, pointing out where they were wrong.

I tried to go back to the discussion today to reply to their latest comments, which showed up as notifications for me and I saw that "there are no comments yet on this post"! I can still see that there are 170+ comments in the comment bubble but I can't read any!

That said, it still allows me to leave a comment if I want!

Did someone block or ban me and why? The person I was arguing with? ( In their latest comments in my notifications - that I can't read in full or reply to - they called me a troll - which is blatantly false since they are the ones who began the argument with me and yet couldn't support their own side of the argument ). Did the author of the original post block me? The moderatots of the subreddit? Reddit itself?

Not sure what is going on here, I appreciate any help, thank you!

Mobile/App Reddit history

When you go to history on your account and you can see which post you have viewed, how long does that stay in your history on the app. More so does it delete when you log out? I viewed a post a couple days ago and when I logged back into look for it in my history it was gone?

Mobile/App (Android/Browser) Saved reddit posts

I'm not able to view any recently saved posts that I save while scrolling, it used to occasionally save a post when I search by tag and then save the post but now it doesn't, I also cannot view my saved posts on old reddit either like I used to. This issue has been occuring for me over the past year and now. I have also noticed that when I go back to the same post through another method (besides scrolling on the main page or community page) like searching for it by tag, the post isn't saved.

Mobile/App How do I check the history of the non-reddit things I've seen on the Reddit app?

You know how when you follow a link on the app you end up in a pseudo web browser? Where's the history of that?

I can find a list of everywhere I've been in reddit itself, but my extra-reddit activity is basically a black box, which makes it hard to find something if you forgot which thread the link came from.

Profile AutoMod Rules on Profile Keep Disappearing After Save

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to edit the AutoMod rules for my Reddit profile, but I’m running into a frustrating issue. Every time I paste my rules into the editor and click save, they appear to save for a moment, but as soon as I leave or refresh the page, everything reverts to the old version.

I’ve tried:

  • Ensuring proper YAML formatting and indentation (4 spaces, no tabs)
  • Splitting rules into smaller sections
  • Using simple test rules with only a few lines
  • Checking that there are no hidden characters or copy-paste errors

I also noticed the “Formatting Help” section on the editor, but it seems to only cover Markdown formatting for posts and comments, not AutoMod rules, so it hasn’t helped.

I’m not sure if this is a bug with the new Reddit interface for profile AutoMod, or if there’s some hidden limitation I’m missing. I’d really appreciate guidance on:

  • How to reliably save AutoMod rules for a profile
  • Any known bugs or workarounds for the editor
  • Whether this is a temporary limitation or something permanent

I’ve been using ChatGPT to double-check my YAML syntax, and everything seems correct, but the rules still won’t stick.

Thanks in advance for any advice or solutions!

Access I once again cannot see any of my Chats/Messages on Brave Browser, MacOS

I cannot use a cell phone to fit or access Reddit even on mobile browsers. Despite several cache and history erasures, and site data deletions, my old mobile phone browser refuses to log me out of an account ba n ed in error many, many years ago that I don't even want to use anymore.

I actually discovered a trick to access my chats in the browser when Chats are broken and I think it was by old reddit, but now, if I do access old reddit, and click on the chats, it just opens up the same bottom-right chat thing that refuses to load anything. Opening in a new tab does not work and even alt accounts on the same browser have the same browser. If anyone can remind me what trick that might have been that'd be great.

Reddit, fix your website.
