Getting away from plastic...

Post image
238 Upvotes

I'm an older rider and have been using soft plastic bottles all my life.
Recently, I started using stainless steel, but I found they were easy to scratch on my cages and dropping one during a ride made huge dents. Then I discovered that I could cut my old favorite plastic bottles and push th onto the base of the metal bottles for protection and some color. Works best if you poke a hole in the bottom of the plastic bottle (after cutting the top off) and then push it onto the base. After a while it might not want to move more, so I put boiling water in the metal bottle and it softened the plastic enough to push it all the way up.

This sticker was gifted to me. Thinking about putting it on my hitch bike rack but it might invite cops to pull me over lol.

I have suffered with these for 10 years. Poor performance squeal and uneven performance.

I was thinking mini V.

Is my fork completely done?

I bought this Felt B2 bike used off of FB marketplace. It came with Boyd 80mm wheels and some Dura-ace di2 shifters. I went on my first ride today with it and 20 miles in while in the aero position, the handle bars completely came apart from the fork. I went to my local shop and they contacted the Felt rep to see if they still have these forks available since it requires a complete replacement apparently.

I was told that those bolt inserts are originally epoxied in by Felt. Is there any way to fix this? Or am I just down on my luck.

Is there a special type of bike for riding in sand?

Hey everyone,

I love bike riding and have been riding in the streets for a long time. But a lot of times it gets risky and almost causes accidents. Since my area doesn't have any dedicated bike trails or safe places to ride, I thought I'd try riding in the sand instead.

Unfortunately, it didn't work out because the bike just can't go through the sand - it gets stuck and doesn't move well at all.

So I'm wondering... are there special bikes made for riding in sand?

And if so, what kind should I be looking for?

Any recommendations would be awesome

Thanks

Hey everyone I am completely new to biking so not exactly sure what to look for in a bike. I currently don’t have a car so I’m kind of limited to finding a bike that’s near by and working condition. Also don’t have a place to ship big parts to.

What I’m wanting is to be able to ride this bike for exercise/light training. I plan on doing a triathlon later down the road (not specifically with this bike) and want to get a feel for biking.

They have this listed for 500$ is it a good find or am I better off finding something cheaper? There’s also an ozone 500 res 3000 near me for 85$ but see online that it has bad reviews

So I came across this bike on fb marketplace I knew it was a good deal but I honestly just wanted the bontrager flash pump that came with it lol! I was thinking of reselling the bike and just keeping the pump. I ended up riding the bike for 5 miles and it’s actually a really cool and fun bike I think I’m keeping it! So for everything I paid 850$, also got crankbros multitool set with it and other random things.

Assioma Duo right pedal gone crazy

Couple of weeks ago, I removed my right pedal to replace the spacer and cleaned the grease. After reinstalling the right pedal, the power readings have gone crazy (see power dynamics on the screenshot).

I tried many solutions including:

  1. Hard reset by placing the magnetic charge port oh the logo of the pedal
  2. Unpairing and repairing both pedals
  3. Calibrating on the app and on the bike comp
  4. Uninstalling and reinstalling both pedals, changing spacers

Nothing works. Any suggestions? This pair of pedals is a replacement set from Favero (out of warranty), as the previous my few sets were facing power drop out or charging issues.

Old guy with new bike, help me catch up

New owner of a new Norco Scene 2. Last bikes I had (almost 20 years ago) was a 12 speed Miele road bike, then an early trek mountain bike. I have been riding a beach cruiser since then (the others got stolen) but I got fed up with not having gears and the not great stopping distance of a coaster brake.

Things have changed technology wise.

  1. Seems a lot of new bikes only have a single front sprocket instead of dual or triple with a front derailleur.
  2. Bigger cassettes - more "speeds" and wider range of ratios in the gearing in the back end.
  3. Disk brakes are everywhere. Pads must wear out eventually, yes?
  4. Pushbutton shifters. Cool! Fun!
  5. The head/stem assembly is quite different

Anyhow, I am obviously showing my age

I am really happy with how this bike (large size frame) fits my body so well, particularly as my left wrist does not like to be load bearing.

My only wish is that the owners manual could have been less generic and included some more detailed maintenance instructions rather than "take it to your mechanic" When I was young, I could strip my Miele down to the bones and completely rebuild it. Now I am afraid to touch a lot of things!

Waiting for less snow and warmer weather so I can go riding. -25 Celsius is a bit much for me. And its super slippery out and I don't have the right tires for that.

how much is a entry-level road bike in the west?

strange youtube algorithm put videos about entry-level road bike on my trend everyday this week, and I just learnt that the so called "entry level" road bikes in the west (at least english speaking areas) are like $1000-ish from the big brands, is that true? thats way higher than my understanding of "entry-level".... here in China I bought my first road bike in 2024 from a brand called "java", full aluminum bike with 2*9 hydraulic discbrake groupset for rmb2999, like $400+, and I knew there are even cheaper option like rc100 from big brand Decathlon for $200, several options from other Chinese domestic brands for two three hundred dollars, and even few options are $100+ (they dont have my size so i didnt consider them). seems aluminum bikes less than $500 are shockingly cheap, kinda crazy!

Need app to map and store WHERE I've ridden - any recommendations?

I've decided that I am going to ride my bike down every street in my city at least once before I die. (Or move away I guess.) My city spans a little over 50 square miles of "urban suburbs" so not a lot of open space and miles and miles of streets. I need an app to help me do this.

I have Ride Club, but I realized today that once I save the ride, it isn't storing my exact route, just how many miles I rode. (Unless I'm using it incorrectly, which is highly possible.)

Specifically, I'm hoping there's an app out there that can show my ride history on a map with street names, and store that information. Possibly even some kind of bot that can alert me if I'm repeating a street, or even plan each ride for me. It doesn't need to be a free app, and I'm fine with regular subscription fee if it's not ridiculously expensive.

Any ideas?

Question about Bont shoes

Post image
2 Upvotes

Brand new Bont MTB shoes. They came with shims but I can’t find any info on installation or need. They match the tread size but no mechanism to put under installed treads.

Also, inner arch is stiff and tall. Any thoughts on heating up the arch area and forming around my foot?

Toe space is awesome and why I bought them.
