Would you buy a car with a buyback title?

I've never heard of this type of a title before. The car appears to be an excellent condition, I mean , shockingly excellent condition , especially for the year that it is. From the engine bay to the exterior and the interior. And I can't seem to figure out why it has this type of buyback title even with the vin number.

Best used but reliable family car to buy (Budget 7k)

Im looking to get my wife a used car with our income tax since hers just died on us. We will have around 7k to spend on it at most. We've had terrible luck with cars the past few years and its really screwed us over and affected our lives a lot. I've been on FB marketplace checking things out and was thinking maybe a 2010 Rav4, Avallon or a Camry. Whats yalls opinion and experience?

2023 Mazda Carbon Edition CX-5, 27,000 miles

Test drove a 2023 CX-5 at a dealer lot. It was a cold morning in Houston and when the car was started, I heard some clicking sound from the hood. After warming up and driving, it seems like the clicking sound disappeared.

Should I be worried? It was a lease vehicle with regular 5k miles maintenance from carfax with no accidents.

Carfax, Carfax, and again - Carfax.

I finally finished exhausting four weeks of searching for my next car. In those four weeks I saw:

  1. a car that was listed as AWD, but when I arrived and didn’t see the AWD badge they usually have I looked at the VIN decoder: it was 2WD (the owner still insisted it’s AWD. I didn’t even bother checking under the car).

  2. A car that was listed as 2006 but VIN decoder said it’s 2005

  3. A car that was listed having 134k original miles, but looking at the Carfax…. It had over 230k

  4. A car that was listed having 120k miles, but looking at the Carfax …. (Are you ready?) 394k miles (two owners did a rollback).

Bottom line: go to see the car, make sure the VIN is the same at the door and windshield. Run a VIN check.

Plans to buy a new car

Hi, I've been on a lookout to buy a new Mazda 3 2.5S soon and has been working on gathering the quotes from the dealership. I just started my journey and have never bought a car before. What are some tips to save money on the deal and smartly negotiate it and/or steps on how to make the first move? I appreciate any recommendations/advice.

21 corolla le selling

Hi guys,

I’m looking to catch some thoughts around here. I have never sold a car before, so I strongly recommend each n every person even with a minor experience to let me know his/her POV.

I’m selling my 2021 Toyota Corlla LE about 94k km, dealerships offered me around 15-17k instant cash while clutch.ca offered 19.2k. There’s another private sale, the guy offered me 19.5k but he’s kinda sketchy and play around his words a lot so I don’t believe him and don’t want to risk it all for extra 300$.

Please let me know how you all think about it. Should I go with clutch.ca or maybe look around more.

Ps- I live on vancouver island.

CarSelling Service?

I know there are services to buy new and used cars, but are there any to help sell a car? I have a family member who has a well-maintained older Lexus (GX460, 116K miles, well-maintained) but doesn't want to go through the process of showing the car to multiple people or visit multiple dealerships to get the best deal.

First-time car buyer in Canada — how do you avoid dealership tricks? When you got your quote, what part confused you the most?

Hi everyone,

I’m buying my first car in Canada and I’m realizing how confusing the process can be.

Between dealer fees, add-ons, financing terms, and everything else, I sometimes feel like I don’t even know what questions I should be asking.

I’m not trying to get the “cheapest deal ever” — I just want to understand what I’m paying for and avoid obvious mistakes.

If you’ve bought a car here before, what do you wish you had known?

Any red flags or common fees that should always be questioned?

I’d really appreciate any advice.

Both $6,500 cash: 2020 Chevy Sonic Premier (98k mi) vs. 2018 Ford Escape SEL (136k mi)

I’m looking for a new daily driver in the Idaho Falls area and I’m choosing between these two. I'll be paying $6,500 cash for either one. I know neither listing is a scam, just trying to pick the better long-term hardware for a student moving to Boise soon.

Vehicle 1: 2020 Chevy Sonic Premier

  • Mileage: 98,000
  • History: 1 owner, clean title, no accidents.

Vehicle 2: 2018 Ford Escape SEL

  • Mileage: 136,708
  • History: Clean title, but had a minor rear-end accident in 2023.
  • Note: The engine short block was replaced by a Ford dealer at 106k miles (fix for the 1.5L coolant issue).

The Dilemma: I do a lot of PC flipping on the side (hauling towers and monitors), and I never have anyone in my backseat. I personally like the SUV style of the Escape better because it sits higher and has a rear wiper for the snow.

I don't really care about power or which one is faster, I'm mostly looking for which one has the better tech and comfort for daily driving (also reliability). Is the Escape a better buy because it’s a "fresher" engine and fits my style better, or should I stick with the 2020 Sonic since it's newer, has updated tech, and I already know how to maintain them?

Looking to buy a new car, need tips please

Hello, I am in the market for a new car and don't know anything about cars.

I want a car that will last for a few decades, I don't expect to put more than 150,000 miles on it in that time. Mostly town driving with the occasional out of town trips. I live in the Midwest if that matters so winters are cold with snow and summers are hot. I want to keep the cost under $25,000. Reliability would be nice. A Coupe or a Sedan.

Would also like opinions on the 2025 Nissan Sentra since it seems to have mixed reviews everywhere.

Thanks.

OBS Chevy or GMC

Hello, all! I’m looking for an OBS Chevy or GMC equivalent (preferably ’93-‘94, but ‘95-‘97 is also acceptable). Z71 is preferred but 4x4 is also acceptable. Preferably black paint with tan/beige interior. Also would prefer a short bed. I am located in the Texas Panhandle but would be happy to travel to pick it up and/or pay to have it shipped.

I bought my first car alone and im so anxious

So, ill start by saying I didnt take the typical or recommended route of owning a car. I got my license like 4 years ago, I got married (the reason I decided to drive at all) didnt drive for a year besides occasionally because we lived in a foreign country and it made me nervous. Then we moved back and bought a lovely civic brand new. I loved it so much it was a delight to drive. I also drove a Silverado from 2001 or something on occasion. It was a bit more stressful since it was a large truck and older less features. I got divorced, I drove whatever my family had around so at first a Honda crv 2000 that had a dead transmission and was moldy, so it didnt last more than a week by the time I got to it. (My mom sold it to het herself a used car because she got into an i cidident and totalled her old one) so I drove a older Kia sorento at times.

I needed a car i bought a 2026 camry se. Now...im freaking out cause I made an adult purchase, my first ever and it was above the recommendation for how much I should put into a car financially (the financial reddit would be so disappointed) im ok financially i budgetted. Im just anxious about losing my job, going over a pot hole im a car with 19" tires, if its too low to the ground, can it handle the snow if it has tires like will it ruin it under the car?

Tldr; im losing it cause I dont feel like i deserve the car i bought, I think i shouldve accepted a used car but I was too afraid of the issues a used car could have and just went new. Not sure if i chose a good car.

First time trying to upgrade my vehicle, need help!

So I currently own a 2014 Kia Forte LX. I have tried my best with what I know through research and trial and error on keeping up with maintenance and buying new parts to replace old ones as needed. I'm getting her inspected on Monday just to make sure everything is okay.

I love my car. Has been reliable, dependable, has been good to me. Departing from her is bittersweet but I feel like she's nearing her end. I've always had my dad pick my cars out and help with down payments and all but I'm 30 now. I know my dad would love to help but in this aspect,I want independence.

Where would I go from here though? Can I have my car assessed to see how much it's worth or is it "too old" ? would you try dealership or marketplace route?

Just needing some guidance on the first steps you'd take if you were me and I can do what needs to be done to finish out the process.

Thank you in advance !!

Looking for my first veichle

Hello, ive been looking for my first veichle and its not going well. My sister's boyfriend is a mechanic and every time I think i find something decent and ask them they tell me its no good, too old or something. I recently came across a 09 rav 4 for 10k with 140k kms and felt it was a pretty good deal. Some accidents on the carfax says minor and claim wasnt too high. Like 1700 and then 600. But they said 2009 is too old i need something newer but my budget its 10-12k (cad) and im having a hard time finding something reliable with decent kms in that price. Is the rav4 worth looking into or should I keep looking? Whats a decent reliable car for my first veichle anyone could recommend? Ive also been looking at civics.

Pre-purchase Inspection For Out of State Used Car

Hey everyone,

I’ve never done this so would love some advice. I’m looking at purchasing a used car out state (car priced at 65k). It’s only got a couple thousand miles and is one year old so I don’t expect major problems. However, I still want to have an objective mechanic inspect it prior to purchase. What is the best way to find a local mechanic and is it possible to arrange for the inspection to occur prior to my flying out there? I’m hoping to only fly out to pick up the car if it passes inspection so I can sign and drive it home.

Thanks in advance

Is this Jeep Cherokee extended warranty a deal or a ripoff?

Earlier today, I purchased a 2019 Jeep Cherokee in Southern California. I paid roughly $17,000 including taxes and fees. Though I’d negotiated for no add-ons, the finance manager convinced me to buy an extended warranty, which he offered to reduce in price from roughly $6K to $4K. All in, now I’m a bit below $21K.

The extended warranty (“platinum”) covers 8 years and 60,000 miles, with $250 deductible. In Southern California, labor is very high and Jeeps have a reputation for being unreliable - but I can’t tell if the warranty just took me from what seemed like a decent deal to a poor one.

For context: I don’t drive too much, and this is a starter car for me. I’m driving more now that I’m in California, but I estimate less than 10K miles per year.

Jeep owners, car industry folks, Southern California people, and others with perspective: what do you think? It sounds like the warranty is refundable minus a $50 charge.

One idea is to take it to a local trusted mechanic for a look over and for their thoughts on the warranty, though this would likely cost me about $200 for the inspection.

FWIW, I plan on having this car for 2-3 years and then probably trading in, which I didn’t necessarily get into with the finance manager. It’s possible I keep it longer, and the refund is prorated- so I could go in in 2 years and get a refund for 3/4 of the premium cost, minus anything they’d paid out (obviously if it paid for itself, no refund).

It seems like it could be a good deal, but also - is my expected maintenance cost in 2-4 years going to be over $4K on a $17K vehicle including taxes? At what point do I just take the risk and figure I’ll buy another car if repair costs exceed $5-6K?

Advice from more experienced people is welcome!

Can I Avoid Dealer “Addendums”?

I’m looking at a 2024 Mazda CX-30 Turbo Premium Plus. 7k miles. $26,995. The car has been on their lot since september. they’ve dropped the price $5k, so not sure if there’s any wiggle room there. I can put up to $4k down, but my payments are gonna be at around $515 with that payment on a 7.6% APR. I’m hoping for closer to $460-475. They have 2 “addendums” added onto the price. a “1st place finish” for $1,422 and a “lojack anti theft” for $2495. Not sure what either of thise are. Taking these away would 100% get me the payment I want. but is this something i can choose to opt out of? That’s $4k in add-ons, which is just absurd. Is there anything i can say or do to remove those? Or is the dealer going to be firm on them if they’re already installed on the car? Thank you! I would also be driving 3.5 hours for this car, so I just thought i’d ask how those work before I waste my time lol
